Superior VPS technology

VPS Center runs the Virtuozzo Linux kernel on all its servers. Virtuozzo Linux is a specially engineered Linux kernel distributed by SW-Soft, Inc. designed to support VPS technology. It is the only true VPS solution that runs on Intel x86 hardware.

Competitors that claim to offer VPS technology but use UML (UserMode Linux), VMWare, or a FreeBSD Jail are not really giving you a VPS. Just because you get root access doesn't mean you have a VPS! This is why.

The concept of dividing a physical server into multiple independent servers (that is, a VPS) started in the old days on mainframe systems. These large-scale systems ran variants of UNIX that had VPS support standard within the kernel itself. A true VPS operating system supports it at the kernel level. Virtuozzo Linux provides this kernel level support, not on mainframes, but on Intel x86 hardware.

Other products claiming to offer VPS technology just run ON TOP of the main OS, not in the kernel, and there is a large amount of the CPU power going into providing the abstraction layer between the main OS and the individualOS's running on top of it (this way you can run different OS's on the same machine, but it is SLOW). As such, these systems are much slower than ours.

Our VPSs come with a wide variety of pre-installed software to help you get started right away. You will find everything you need to host dynamic web sites (Apache web server, PHP, Perl, MySQL), develop software (all popular compilers and interpreters are included), run E-Commerce sites, host discussion forums (phpBB), and many more! Not only that, but all the pre-installed applications are packaged as Application Templates that we maintain and upgrade periodically -- you don't need to worry about applying security patches or doing routine upgrades, since we take care of that for you. This free upgrade service is optional, so don't worry if you want to install and maintain your own software, that's fine with us.

Also, whenever we make new Application Templates for software that was not originally on your VPS, you may install it into your VPS with only one click of the "Install" button within your control panel! It couldn't be easier!

For those of you who are not Linux-savvy, never fear! All VPS accounts come with an easy-to-use web based control panel that allows you to configure and maintain your VPS without using the command-line shell.
